You can say, “It depends on the quality of content.”
No. We’re talking about the exact and same content to the T. It’s just that one is text-based and the other one is video-based. So which one will get the most attention?
Videos will dominate the internet by over 80% by 2019. Did you know that over 64% of web-visitors are more likely to make a buying decision after watching a video?
A video inserted into your marketing emails and landing pages can boost click-through rates by up to 300% and increase conversion rates by over 80%, respectively.
According to YouTube, mobile-based video watchers grow by over 100% every year. One-third of all the time spent online by individuals is spent on watching videos.
Over 35% of all ad spending online is invested in video ads. Over 59% of decision-makers would rather watch a video than read a blog post.
No wonder why 87% of online marketers like me invest heavily on animated and explainer video services.
If you’ve been following me on this page for a while now, you know that I am fond of writing long posts. One day I spent at least 30 minutes to write a well-thought-of (and lengthy, for sure) post about a particular topic. It got 3 likes. Had I not shared it with my friends, it would not have gotten a single share.
The next day, I re-posted the exact and same content but this time it’s in a video format. It got over 50 likes and over-a-dozen shares.
I was dumb-founded. It was just the same content delivered in a different format!
Now, I don’t need to overuse the rustic “Statistics show…” statement because I have experienced the difference a video-based content can make over a text-based material.

Let me be clear. I am not saying that long-form, text-based content is useless this 2018 and beyond. There is a right place where to use and a right time when to use the long-form content.
Take this website where you’re reading this article as an example. The majority of my articles are long-form types of content yet my website gets thousands of views a month. Its all-time high in terms of monthly visits is almost 200,000.
Writing long-form content on my personal website is fine because I’ve already gravitated the kind of audience I like. I have been blogging for several years already. I’m no longer on the first level of audience acquisition as far as this website is concerned.
I’ve already attracted thousands of people who don’t yawn at the sight of a 1,000-word article. I’ve already attracted readers who don’t puke when they do not see any picture after every five sentences.
But if you are just on the first stage of establishing the initial blogger-reader relationship between you and your target customers, I highly recommend that you use video-based materials.

If you are like me who have an established client base, I recommend that you use video content not only to retain but also to increase your subscriber base. I am saying this not out of theory but tried-and-tested experience.
On the other hand, if you’re a startup entrepreneur or business, I encourage that you invest seriously in video-based marketing materials. You don’t have to wait another 17 years for you to realize my mistake. I wish I invested heavily in video-based marketing materials 17 years ago.
